If you didn’t already see my blog post in Dayton Local about Rue Dumaine, then you should go read it before reading this…
I love Rue Dumaine. For all the reasons I listed in that article.
But the latest visit I had was especially fun because of one big reason: the frog legs.
Now I took one look at those frog legs and thought, “Eh. It’ll taste like chicken just like they said.”
But I’ll admit. After a few bites I got a little confused.
There were a LOT of bones in my frog.
I’m not sure why, but I was thinking my frog would be one bone and mostly flesh. But no. Grace and I spit out a lot of bones during this experience. And so besides that aspect, I did enjoy the frog. It really did taste pretty much like chicken. I liked the herb de provence sauce they offered to accompany it. And it was good enough that I wouldn’t be scared to try it elsewhere.
Something I especially like about Rue Dumaine, is they know they’re fancy and that customers may be a little naive…hence the glossary you’ll find on the back of the menu.
After quite the appetizer, Grace and I used the glossary to help us decide on what we wanted for our main course. We decided to keep it simple and went with fish.
I tried a new type of fish (Kingklip), which was the special of the day and highlighted the New Orleans style Rue Dumaine specializes in. It was especially good and was one of those rare times where I wasn’t still hungry after I ate fish.
All in all, if you haven’t been to Rue Dumaine yet…get yourself over there. You may just find yourself trying something new and exciting you never thought you’d find in Dayton.

I’ve always wanted to try frog legs. Thankfully I think I could handle all the bones but my husband would most definitely puke on the table. LOL
The reason there were bones in your frog legs, is because you are supposed to eat them like chicken wings. You don’t bite into them whole. Ignorance is bliss. Your immature lack of culinary knowledge makes one wonder why they would read this waste of time?
Haha. I never claimed to be a pro.
